Written by Duke Ellington and Bubber Miley in 1927 and originally played on a trumpet.
Steely Dan made a great recording of this song for their Pretzel Logic album in 1974 where the muted trumpet part was simulated on guitar with a wah wah. This is based on the Steely Dan version. My son Andrew made the backing track which is available to purchase here :- http://www.philmcgarrick.co.uk/CD.html He has also made the Score and Guitar Tabs (including the piano solo ) and is available as a free PDF download here :- http://www.philmcgarrick.co.uk/scores.html Hope you like our version of East St Louis Toodle Oo. Steve McQueen and Neile Adams in opening scene from The Man from the South from Alfred Hitchcock Presents, season five 1961 FUN FACT HERE---"The Man from the South" was originally a short story was written by the one and only celebrated children's author Roald Dahl, the man who gave us such masterful work for the wee ones such as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, " "James and the Giant Peach," "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" and "The Witches." And it took place in England, like all of Dahl's stuff. He was a native Brit. A man who did as much for English literature as Charles Dickens. --FOR THE DAHL, Dane Youssef steve-mcqueen-king-of-cool |
